Summary: | PURPOSE:To obtain a novel microorganism, capable of converting a diester into a half ester and belonging to the genus Bacillus, by cultivating and separating Bacillus sp. VA-47 strain (FERM-P No.8730) from soil. CONSTITUTION:A novel microorganism obtained by adding, e.g. supernatant liquid of a suspension of sterilized physiological saline solution of soil to a separating culture medium, carrying out shaking cultivation, smearing a separating agar culture medium with the culture to carry out cultivation, repeating separation of the formed colonies with a separating agar culture medium to obtain completely purified Bacillus sp. VA-47 strain. The VA-47 strain has an ability to convert cis-imidazolidinedicarboxylic acid diester into an optically active imidazolidinedicarboxylic acid derivative (half ester) by sultivating in the presence of the diester. Various culture media containing a carbon source, nitrogen source, inorganic substances, etc., may be used as the culture medium for the above-mentioned VA-47 strain. |
