Summary:PURPOSE:To enable the stable building-up of a monomolecular film by enhancing the orientation of a film molecule and the uniformity of the film, in building up the monomolecular film by a LB method, by raising or falling the air-water interface of an aqueous solution to build up the monomolecular film on a substrate. CONSTITUTION:For example, in building up a monomolecular film according to an X-type built-up film method, the monomolecular layer 2 of an org. mole cule formed on the air-water interface of water or an aqueous solution 3 containing a divalent metal ion by a Langmuir-Prodget method is held to defi nite film pressure by a Teflon bar 7. Next, the same aqueous solution 3 is quitley injected in a water tank 6 from a water pouring port 8 to contact the monomolecular layer 2 with a substrate 1. Thereafter, when the aqueous solution 3 is discharged from the water pouring port 8, the monomolecular layer 2 is transferred onto the substrate 1 and, by repeating this method, the arbitrary number of built-up films each having such a structure that a hydrophobic group is oriented to the side of the substrate 1 and opposed to a hydrophilic group are formed.
