Summary:PURPOSE:To make it possible to feed paper by manually rotating a platen without damaging a printing head, by controlling a printing head so as to move the same in a direction away from the platen by a signal detecting that the voltage of a power source reached predetermined voltage or less. CONSTITUTION:When a paper source is cut off during usual printing operation, that is, while a printing head 3 presses paper 4 to a platen 1, the cutting-off of the power source is detected on the basis of the voltage group of a DC power source by a voltage variation detection circuit 7 and the detection signal thereof is sent to a head moving control circuit 6. The head moving control circuit 6 drives a stepping motor 5 on the basis of said detection signal before the DC power source is perfectly cut off to move the printing head 3 to a home position. By this method, the platen 1 is manually freely rotated by a platen knob 2 to enable paper feed.
