Summary:PURPOSE:To prevent oxidation of ferrous ion in electrolyte and reduce content of heavy metal impurity in electrodeposited iron, by covering a surface of electrolyte with inert gas, liquid or solid to intercept it from air at manufacturing electrolytic iron. CONSTITUTION:Anode made of soft steel or pure iron, etc., and stainless steel cathode are dipped in electrolyte contg. ferrous ion, electricity is conducted to electrodeposit iron on cathode. In this case, if ferrous ion in electrolyte is oxidized to ferric ion by oxygen in air, Cu, Co, Ni contained in anode sludge, etc., are oxidized, made soluble and entered into electrodeposited iron, and quantities of these heavy metal impurities are increased. For preventing this, surface of electrolyte is covered with inert gas such as N2, or inert liquid such as fluid paraffin, silicone oil or fibers impregnated therewith, or solid such as polypropylene foamed body, elastic sheet, to intercept it from air and fault due to oxidation of ferrous ion is prevented.
