Summary:PURPOSE:To prevent the weight of a moving base from being added to the pressure of a head by receiving said weight at one or more gravity supporting points on a fixed base while in the operating state when a pair of magnetic heads slidably contact a magnetic recording medium. CONSTITUTION:In the operating state, a weighting point 7 provided near the center of gravity G of the moving base 4 contacts the respective weight supporting points 9 of an supporter arm 8 extending from the fixed base 3, and the weight of the moving base 4 itself is received by the fixed base 3 regardless of the vertical/horizontal posture of the magnetic head supporter 5. A pressing spring 10 to press the base 4 against the base 3 is disposed between a spring supporting plate 11 and the moving base 4 so that the point 7 and the points 9 stably contact each other and secure positional accuracy regardless of the vertical or horizontal posture of the supporting device. The effect of the spring 10 can be substituted by the pre-loading of a plate spring 6. Accordingly, the pressure Q of the magnetic heads 2A and 2B can be made constant regardless of the vertical or horizontal posture of the magnetic head supporting device 5 in use.
