PURPOSE:To obtain the titled equipment having high productivity, by cleaning the surface of steel strip, then vapor deposition plating low m.p. metal to welding position stripedly in width direction of said strip, next, electroplating corrosion resisting metal over whole surface thereof. CONSTITUTION:The steel strip 3 rewound from coils 1, 2 alternately, is supplied continuously through welder 4, and whose surface is cleaned by degreasing, pickling and heat treatment, etc., in a surface cleaning apparatus 6. Then, the strip 3 is passed through a strip vapor deposition plating apparatus 7 such as vacuum vapor deposition plating apparatus to plate stripedly low m.p. metal such as Sn only to welding position. The strip 3 is passed through an apparatus 8 for electroplating corrosion resistant metal to plate said metal such as Cr over whole surface, then passed through a dryer 9, an oil coater 10 in order, and is wound by a coil 12. Thereby, steel sheet for can, superior in weldability is obtd. inexpensively, surely while maintaining high productivity.
