Summary:PURPOSE:To conform the feeding quantity and velocity of an IDF to the returning velocity of a carriage, by a construction wherein an IDF provided on a lower lock plate fitted to a carriage is clamped by an upper lock member and is taken up concurrently with the movement of the carriage when returning the carriage. CONSTITUTION:When the carriage 10 comes to the right end, it is returned to a home position at a high velocity. In this case, a movable roller guide plate 12 presses the IDF 31 against the lower lock plate 13 to clamp the IDF 31 by a frictional force, and pulls the IDF 31 leftward concurrently with the leftward movement of the carriage 10. Accordingly, a fresh part of the IDF 31 is paid out from a payout spool 33 by an amount equal to the distance the carriage 10 is moved, and when the carriage comes to the home position, the unused fresh part of the IDF 31 is set opposite to a platen 40, while the used part of the IDF 31 is taken up by a take-up spool 34.
