Summary:PURPOSE:To form the optimum swirl and permit the optimum combustion by installing a air-stream deflecting apparatus which controls the suction stream in the proper direction such as towards a recessed part, into the suction port of an engine in which a recessed part is formed at the top part of a piston. CONSTITUTION:An air-stream deflecting apparatus 18 is installed at the suction port 12 of an engine in which a recessed part 4 is formed at the center of the top part of a piston 3, and is swing-controlled by a CPU according to the engine operation state. When the engine is in low load and at low revolutional speed, the air-stream deflecting apparatus 18 is projected into the air-stream, and the suction stream is deflected to the center side of the cylinder. Therefore, the air-stream flows into the recessed part 4 of the piston under forming an eddy current, and when fuel is jetted into this part, proper combustion is obtained. In high load and at high revolutional speed, the air-stream deflecting apparatus is returned as shown as shown by the full line, and the air-stream in the cylinder is made flow into the whole range of the cylinder.
