PURPOSE:To detect a char bed level from reception states of opening parts formed in the furnace wall of the bottom part of a boiler furnace by moving up and down a pair of a transmitter and a receiver on the same horizontal plane corresponding to the opening parts. CONSTITUTION:A transmission time is set optionally by the condition setter 32 in a level display device 7, a computing element 30 generates an instruction so as to perform transmission only for the set time, and the transmitter 2 transmits an electromagnetic wave into the furnace through a controls signal converter 33. The receiver 3, on the other hand, holds itself in a receivable state for the transmission time and outputs a received signal to a data gathering device 6. The computing element 30 integrates the transmission time of the gathered data to obtains a reception level and recognizes whether there is a char bed from the position of the receiver. Thus, the reception time of the electromagnetic wave is integrated to obtain the reception level, so the char bed level is measured without misrecognizing whether there is the char bed or not owing to irregular hunting which disables reception.
