Summary:PURPOSE:To improve the wear resistance, durability and runnability of a recording medium consisting of a thin ferromagnetic metallic film by forming a protective layer consisting of the specific single protective paint on the surface of the thin ferromagnetic metallic film formed by a vapor deposition method, etc. on a film base. CONSTITUTION:The long-chain alkyl pendant type polymer expressed by the formula (R1, R2, denote the alkyl group of 16-24C, X denotes an ester group or ether group) is coated to <=500Angstrom thickness on the surface of the thin ferromagnetic metallic film formed on the film base. The polymer is dissolved at 0.001-10vol% to prepare the protective paint and such paint is coated on the surface of the thin metallic film in this stage. The coated film is improved in the wear resistance and runnability by the suitable film thickness of the long-chain alkyl pendant type polymer film obtd. from the coating concn. and the lubricating effect possessed by the long-chain alkyl group; at the same time the contact angle of the magnetic layer with water is increased by the hydrophobic property possessed by the long-chain alkyl gruop. The intrusion of water which is the case for rust is thus prevented and the corrosion resistance is improved.
