Summary:PURPOSE:To provide a magnetic recording medium which has the strength to withstand satisfactorily flawing, obviates sticking of a head and a low coefft. of friction by providing a lubricating layer consisting of an org. high-polmer compd. and boron compd. on the surface of a magnetic recording layer. CONSTITUTION:The magnetic recording layer 2 is formed on a substrate 1 and a solid lubricating film 3 consisting of the org. high polymer and boron compd. is coated on the surface of the layer 2. The high polymer includes a phenolic resin and polybenzothiazole resin. The boron compd. is exemplified by boron compd. such as Ta2, Mo2 and B and boron oxide such as B4O3 and B4O5. The degree of sticking of the head to the magnetic recording medium and the coefft. of friction of said medium are thus decreased and the strength to flawing is improved, by which the life is considerably extended.
