Summary:PURPOSE:To correctly set the injection characteristic by fitting a control sleeve onto the outer periphery of the plunger of a fuel injection pump and shifting the control sleeve in the axial and circumferential direction by an electronic actuator through a connecting mechanism. CONSTITUTION:A plunger 6 moved in reciprocation by a cam mechanism not shown in the figure is fitted through a tappet 9 into the barrel 5 of a fuel injection pump 3 installed into the upper half of the body assembly body 1 of a unit injector, and an annular control sleeve 11 is fitted onto the outer periphery of a part of the plunger 6. the sleeve 11 can be shifted in the axial and circumferential direction, and installed so that the injection characteristic is varied. In other words, an actuator 20 for the shift in the circumferential direction and an actuator 21 for the shift in the axial direction are connected with the control sleeve 11 through the connecting mechanisms 22 and 23, and the injection timing and injection quantity can be varied by shifting the control sleeve 11 in the circumferential and axial directions.
