Summary: | PURPOSE:To well soften a high-alloy steel without causing cracking by subjecting the steel to cogging or continuous casting, putting the resulting billet or slab in a furnace, and heating it at a specified temp. or below. CONSTITUTION:A high-alloy steel is subjected to cogging or continuous casting, and the resulting billet or slab is put in a furnace at the Ms point or above and heated at the Ac3 point or below to precipitate ferrite or ferrite+carbide and to lower the surface hardness to <=250. The billet or slab is put in the furnace at the Ms point or above so as to inhibit martensitic transformation and to prevent transformation stress cracking. By this method, the consumption unit of fuel required to soften the high-alloy steel can be reduced. |
