Summary:PURPOSE:To improve the reliability of an engine controller by accepting the switch request signal delivered when the 2nd computer detects a fault of the 1st computer through a monitor circuit only when the 2nd computer is working in a normal state. CONSTITUTION:A CPU monitor signal 26a is delivered to a CPU monitor circuit 26 from an input/output circuit 6 is order to show that a CPU is working in a normal state. When a fault is detected, the circuit 26 delivers a reset signal 26b to reset both the CPU8 and the circuit 6 in a fixed cycle. Then the output of the circuit 6 is switched to the output of a state where the engine drive is stopped safely. A backup CPU28 delivers a switch request signal 28a as long as a reset signal 28b is inverted in a fixed cycle. A switch signal 30a is sent to a switch circuit 18, and the control signals applied to a fuel supply device 20, an ignition controller 22 and a fule pump 24 are switched to the side of the CPU28.
