Summary:PURPOSE:To prevent the platen cover of a copying machine from breaking and to eliminate the influence of light from a flash lamp upon the eye of an operator even if the light leaks by moving up and down the platen cover according to the thickness of an original and fixing the original. CONSTITUTION:Lift hinge couples 7 and 7' of a pantograph mechanism are fitted to hinge fitting spaces 6 and 6' of the platen cover 5 and proper positions of the left and right outside ends of the platen cover 2 of the machine frame 1, and the cover 5 is moved up and down on the platen glass 2. When the copying machine is in use, the platen cover 5 is elevated over the platen glass 2 by using the lift hinge couples 7 and 7' and lowered on an original after the original is set. When the original is thick, the platen cover 5 slants through the lift hinge couples 7 and 7' to press the original placed on the platen glass 2, so that the platen cover 5 is used in follow-up to the thickness of the original.
