PURPOSE:To make efficient multiplexing and demultiplexing by transmitting at the sending side by multiplexing by affixing the leading flag of the channel to the information data and reproducing at the receiving side the channel of the down link responsive to the channel number identification code, the leading flag and the dummy flag transmitted after multiplexing. CONSTITUTION:At the transmitting side, a signal is transmitted while multiplexing by affixing the leading flag of the channel in addition to the chan nel number identification code with an information data. When the difference between the number of the channel decided by the channel number identification code and the immediately adjacent channel number exceeds a prescribed value, transmission is made with multiplexing by affixing to the dummy data the dummy flag in addition to the channel number identification code. At the receiv ing side, reading of the contents of the control memory in advance is performed in response to the channel identification code, leading flag and the dummy flag transmitted after multiplexing, while the contents are used to produce the channel number identification code for the down link to reproduce the channel of the down link classified by the channel boundary identifier.
