Summary:PURPOSE:To omit the initialization to a master unit and to eliminate the malfunctions sue to the setting mistake, by using the unit presence signals to connect plural slave units and transmitting an END code only through the slave unit that receives no unit presence signal so that the master unit detects the number of slave units. CONSTITUTION:A master unit 1 selects the slave units through an address line 4 and receives data in the order of slave units 21-2n-1 and 2n. When a slave unit transmits data, it transmits only its own data as long as the input of a unit presence signal is detected. While the slave unit transmits an END code in addition to its own data if no unit presence signal is detected. These slave units 21-2n-1 receive the unit presence signals from slave units 22-2n respectively and therefore transmit only the data on their own units to the master unit 1. The slave unit 2n receives no unit presence signal since it has no subsequent slave unit.
