Summary:PURPOSE:To obviate the deterioration in a magnetic characteristic owing to the strain generated during machining by using the prescribed crystal faces of an Mn-Zn ferrite single crystal to form respectively the contact surfaces, butt surfaces and magnetic path surfaces of a pair of head chip halves. CONSTITUTION:The respective contact surfaces 11, butt surfaces 12 and magnetic path surfaces 13 of a pair of the head chip halves 10, 10 are constituted of the crystal faces (112), (111), (110) of the Mn-Zn ferrite single crystal. These core halves are so butted that the directions existing in the respective surfaces 13 face the surfaces 11 and face each other or the contact surfaces 11, butt surfaces 12 and magnetic path surfaces 13 are constituted of the crystal faces (145), (123), (111). After the core body subjected to all the machining and having the prescribed shape and size is formed, the core body is heated up to approximately 200-500 deg.C and is held for the specified time at said temp., then the core body is cooled down to an ordinary temp.
