Summary: | PURPOSE:To obtain a compound useful as a raw material for synthesizing a polycarbonte in high quality easily without fear of coloring, by reacting a dialkyl carbonate with phenol in the presence of an ester exchange reaction catalyst consisting essentially of ferric acetate. CONSTITUTION:A dialkyl carbonate shown by the formula (R-O)2-C=O (R is 1-10C alkyl) is reacted with phenol in the presence of an ester exchange reaction catalyst consisting essentially of ferric acetate at 100-300 deg.C, preferably at 150-250 deg.C to give the aimed diphenyl carbonate. A molar ratio of the dialkyl carbonate and phenol is preferably 1:1-1:10, and the amount of the catalyst used is 0.001-10mol/l, preferably 0.01-0.1mol/l based on the whole reaction mixture. |
