Summary:PURPOSE:To measure a chlorine ion over a long time by preventing the adhesion of protein to an electrode, by using a silver/silver chloride electrode as a chlorine ion selective electrode and allowing silver chloride to be present in the solution contacted with the electrode in a dissolved state. CONSTITUTION:A silver/silver chloride electrode is used as a chlorine ion selective electrode. By using this electrode, a chlorine ion selectively acts on the surface of the electrode and the voltage of the electrode changes corresponding to the concn. of the chlorine ion and the concn. of the chlorine ion can be calculated from the potential of the electrode. When silver chloride is dissolved in a solution to be measured, the elution of silver chloride from the electrode is prevented and the deterioration of the electrode is prevented. The silver/silver chloride electrode and a reference electrode are immersed in a solution to be measured and silver chloride is dissolved in the solution to measure the potential of the electrode and the concn. of the chlorine ion is calculated. Because protein is not adhered when the chlorine ion in serum is measured by the silver/silver chloride electrode, the chlorine ion can be stably measured over a long time.
