PURPOSE:To perform a high speed retrieval of recording information without adding or complicating the construction of the titled device by recording a different pattern at a specified position every area of a tape shape recording medium, and detecting it by a rotating head at a high speed running. CONSTITUTION:Counters 64 an FF65 are respectively reset and set in accordance with a recording start timing signal supplied from a system controller to a terminal 62. When this counter 64 counts a pulse corresponding to the number of revolution of a rotating cylinder from a terminal 61 outputted by an edge detecting circuit 63 to obtain a predetermined value, reverses the output to H and resets the FF65. By such a resetting, a Q output of the FF65 is reversed to L to be a mute signal, the information such as a PCM signal is recorded on a magnetic tape and a particular pattern signal is recorded. A different pattern recorded at a particular position every zone of this tape is detected by a rotating head under a condition that the tape is run at a high speed and the recorded information can be retrieved at a high speed without adding or complicating the construction of the titled device.
