Summary:PURPOSE:To efficiently treat water to be treated, by providing a dissolved oxygen densitometer in a water channel and controlling the number of rotations of a vertical shaft type aerator and the immersion depth of a water scraping blade by the signal of said densitometer. CONSTITUTION:Water to be treated is flowed into a water channel 8 through an inflow pipe 12 and a special aerator 10 is operated to scrape up water by a water scraping-up blade 3 and water discharged into air and sprinkled to the surface of water to perform aeration while a recirculation stream is generated in the water channel 8 and BOD is removed by the action of activated sludge. The number of rotations of the special aerator 10 are controlled by the signal from the dissolved oxygen densitometer 9 to perform a proper value. When the concn. of dissolved oxygen becomes higher than the proper value, the number of rotations of the special aerator 10 is held as it is and an electromotor 6B lowers a shaft 4 by a filter 11.
