Summary: | PURPOSE:To lower the detection cost, by attaching a reference position signal generating projection to the side of a ring gear at nonequal interval while pickups are each provided at the position facing the circumferential surface of the teeth of the ring gear and at the position against the projection. CONSTITUTION:A crank angle detector 1 made up of a ring gear 2 of the engine body, a first pickup 3 comprising a magnet pickup arranged against the circumference thereof and a second pickup 4 of the same structure facing the side of the ring gear 2. The gear 2 has a number of teeth formed on the circumference thereof to serve as teeth for generation of crank angle signals and two projections made of magnetic material for generating a reference position signal attached onto the side thereof 2 at nonequal interval on a roughly concentric circle. The detection signal POS from a detector 1 is shaped in the waveform with a control circuit 10 and a pulse is generated to be outputted as a crank angle signal POS. This enables the use as a rotor of the ring gear as existing part of the engine body while eliminating the need for major modification of the ring gear thereby lowering the cost with the reduction in the number of parts. |
