Summary:PURPOSE:To lower the detection cost, by providing a rotor in which numerous teeth for generating crank angle signals teeth are formed on the circumference thereof with those specified used for generation of a reference position signal having a magnetized body buried thereinto and a a pickup at the position facing it. CONSTITUTION:A crank angle detector 1 is made up of an existing part of the engine body as a rotor, a ring gear 2 and a magnet pickup 3 arranged facing the circumferential surface thereof 2. Numerous teeth 2a are formed on the circumference of the gear 2 to serve for generating crank angle signals as they are while those specified are used for generation of a reference position signal by burying thereinto a magnetized body 5 covered with a magnetic shield material 4 on the perimeter thereof except for the circumferential surface. Then, the detection signal Sa from the pickup 3 of the crank angle detector 1 enters a control circuit 10 to control the ignition timing or the like. with such an arrangement, the use of only one rotor and one pickup enables the generation of a reference position signal and crank angle signals while allowing the common use of parts thereby lowering the cost with a reduced number of parts.
