Summary:PURPOSE:To provide a jig for welding having an electrical insulating characteristic, heat resistance, wear resistance and toughness and to make the jig usable under severe welding conditions by providing chromium oxide converted by heating from a chromium compd. on the surface of a base body consisting of a metal having toughness. CONSTITUTION:A base body formed to a prescribed shape is dipped into a reactive liquid consisting principally of a chromium compd. and is then subjected to a heating treatment to convert said compd. to a layer contg. chromium oxide. A desired surface condition is obtd. by repeating such cycle a plural number of times. The jig for welding obtd. in such a way has the electrical insulating characteristic, heat resistance and wear resistance provided by the chromium oxide and the toughness provided by the base body and therefore the jig satisfies the properties required as a jig for welding and has excellent durability.
