Summary:PURPOSE:To switch three modes by one lever and to simplify the structure of a tape recorder by reversing tape travelling at the reproducing time and releasing a recording mode at the recording time only by one slide lever when the end of the tape is detected. CONSTITUTION:A slider 39 for pinch roller switching is butted with the right end part of the slide lever 40 controlling a reverse mode and both the slider 39, and lever 40 are supported by a chassis so as to be slid. When the tape end is detected at the reproducing time, the lever 40 and the slider 39 are moved to the left side through an intermittent-toothed gear 95, a pinch roller 71b is pressed adhesively and the tape recorder is changed over to the reverse mode. If the tape end is detected under said condition, the lever 40 and the slider 39 are returned to the original position and the device is turned to the reproducing mode. If the end is detected during recording, the slider 39 is unlocked and only the lever 40 is rotated and returned, so that the recording releasing lever 110 is depressed. Consequently, three modes can be changed over only by one lever and the structure can be simplified.
