Summary:NEW MATERIAL:The 2-methoxy-3-(2'-methoxy-4'-hydroxybenzoyloxy)-4-hydroxy- benzoic acid of formula. USE:An accelerator for the biosynthesis of prostaglandin expected to be useful as a blood platelet coagulation inhibitor. PREPARATION:The compound of formula is produced by (1) condensing 2-methoxy-4-benzyloxybenzoic acid with 2,3-dihydroxy-4-benzyloxybenzoic acid banzyl ester to obtain 2-hydroxy-3-(2'-methoxy-4'-benzyloxybenzoyloxino-4-benzyloxybenzoic acid benzyl ester, (2) methylating the product to 2-methoxy-3-(2'-methoxy-4'-benzyloxybenzoyloxy)-4-benzyloxybenzoic acid benzyl ester, and (3) subjecting the ester to debenzylation reaction.
