Summary:PURPOSE:To prevent the crack occuring in thermal expansion by forming a solid electrolyte element into a tubular shape closed at one end, providing respectively electrode layers to the outside and inside surfaces thereof and connecting the electrode layer on the outside surface and the electrode layer on the inside surface via a plug body provided to the instrument for the purpose of attaching the element. CONSTITUTION:The plug body 4 is attached to a measuring gas chamber 2 and the proton conductive solid element 3 made into the tubular shape closed at one end is fitted therein. The element 3 is made of strontium oxide, cerium oxide, etc, and detects hydrogen or steam. The electrode layers 8, 9 are respectively provided to the outside and inside surfaces of the element 3. The electrode layer 8 on the outside surface of the element 3 is brought into contact with the measuring gas and the electrode layer 9 on the inside surface is brought into contact with a standard gas. The electromotive force EMF owing to a difference in the concn. between the hydrogen or steam is detected. The layer 8 is connected to the body 4 and the layer 9 to the terminal 5 in the aperture of the element 3 to generate the electromotive force. The crack occuring in the thermal expansion of the instrument is thus prevented and the sealability is improved.
