Summary:PURPOSE:To form a mixed layer as specified in a blast furnace and to improve the blast furnace operation by binding coke and ore with a binding agent to obtain a briquette of coke and ore, and charging the briquette into the blast furnace. CONSTITUTION:Coke and ore both of which are the raw materials for a blast furnace are mixed in a powdery state, and a binding agent such as cement is added to the mixture as the binding agent. The mixture is then added with necessary water, etc., kneaded, charged into a mold, and cured to obtain a coke- ore briquette having enough strength which is not broken by the shock produced by the falling in the blast furnace. The briquette is charged into the blast furnace by using a conventional bell-type feeder or a rotary feeder. Consequently, the separation of coke and ore is prevented when the briquette falls in the furnace and flows on the surface of the charged material, and a mixed layer as desired is formed in the furnace. The total pressure drop is also improved, and the gas availability and the fuel ratio is improved.
