Summary:PURPOSE:To obtain a magnetic recording medium which has excellent long period preservability even at and under a high temp. and high humidity and has excellent running stability, still durability, etc. by providing a top coat layer contg. two kinds of specific phosphate compds. at a specific ratio on a thin continuous film type magnetic layer. CONSTITUTION:The top coat layer contg. the compd. expressed by formulas I, II(R1, R2 are respectively an alkyl of 10-22C, Y1, Y2 are respectively H, or cation of a metal or onium, Y1 and Y2 may form together bivalent cation, R3 is an alkyl of 10-20C and may preferably a straight chain, Z1 is H or cation of a metal or onium or alkyl) in which the compd. expressed by formula II is incorporated at 0.15-0.55mol for each 1mol the compd. expressed by formula I is formed by a vapor deposition method on the thin continuous film type magnetic layer contg. Co or Co-Ni, Co+O, etc. The magnetic recording medium which has the excellent long period preservability even at and under a high temp. and high humidity, decreases the generation of drop-out and is highly durable is thus obtd.
