Summary:PURPOSE:To improve the riding feeling by controlling a field current so that an acceleration becomes the linear function of a time when an electric railcar is started. CONSTITUTION:The armature current Ia of an armature 6 increases at the starting time until becoming the prescribed value by a cam shaft controller 8, and is then controlled constantly, but increases at a time determined by the rotating speed of a cam shaft until becoming the prescribed current value (idle notch period). A field current controller 4 maintains the field current If of a field winding 3 substantially constantly when the current Ia increases by a linear function of time during an idle notch period, and gradually increases the field current If when the notch period is finished and the current Ia becomes substantially constant value. Thus, the change rate of the acceleration can be maintained constantly, and the riding feeling can be improved.
