Summary:NEW MATERIAL:A compound expressed by formula I (R1 is ethyl or propyl; R2 is ethyl, propyl, 2-methylpropyl, 1-methylbutyl or 3-methylbutyl) or a salt thereof. EXAMPLE:1-(1-Methylbutyloxycarbonyloxy)propyl 7beta-[2-(2-aminothiazol-4-yl)acetamido]-3-[ [ [1-( 2-dimethylaminoethyl )-1H-tetrazol-5-yl]thio]methyl]ceph-3-em-4- carboxylate dihydrochloride. USE:An antimicrobial agent against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria and resistant germs thereof administrable by oral routes. PREPARATION:A compound expressed by formula II [A is amino or acylamino other than 2-(2-aminothiazol-4-yl)acetylamino] is reacted with a compound expressed by formula III (X is halogen), and then phosphorus pentachloride and an alcohol in case A is amino group. The resultant compound expressed by formula IVis then acylated with 2-(2-aminothiazol-4-yl)acetic acid expressed by formula V.
