Summary:PURPOSE:To decrease the static pressure of a molten steel and to prevent bulging by applying the magnetic force in the direction opposite from the advancing direction of a billet to the unsolidified steel in the billet supported by billet support rolls with the moving magnetic field of electromagnetic induction pumps. CONSTITUTION:The molten steel 4 cast into a casting mold 2 descends between the billet support rolls 8 while forming a solidified shell 6 on the surface. The electromagnetic induction pumps 12 are provided on the outside of the rolls 8 after the position where the shell 6 grows to some extent. The moving magnetic field is acted on the unsolidified steel 4 in the direction opposite to the advancing direction of the billet by said pumps 12. The static pressure is decreased by the magnetic force of such moving magnetic field and therefore the bulging of the billet is suppressed and the billet having excellent quality with less central segregation is cast.
