Summary:PURPOSE:To decrease the longitudinal surface crack in the central part of a slab by arranging plural pieces of electromagnetic coils on a molten steel and fluidizing the molten steel on the surface to prescribed directions. CONSTITUTION:Plural pieces of the magnetic coils 7 are arranged in the longitudinal direction of a casting mold 1 for a continuous casting of the steel slab above the surface of the molten steel in the mold 1. The molten steel on the surface part is energized to the direction where the molten steel is fluidized toward counter nozzle sides with an immersion nozzle 2 as a center. The stagnating part of the casting flx 4 near the nozzle 2 and the molten layer 3 thereof are eliminated by the flow 8 of the molten steel formed in such a way. The longitudinal surface crack in the central part of the slab is thus decreased.
