Summary:PURPOSE:To prevent a vibrating phenomenon of an optical pickup, and to improve the tracking accuracy by attaching pivotally the pickup to an oscillating shaft of a carriage through an elastic supporting means. CONSTITUTION:An optical pickup 1' is attached pivotally through a cylindrical elastic body 20 made of rubber to an oscillating shaft 7' formed as one body with a carriage 6' and a linear motor consisting of a coil C1 for driving the carriage 6', a yoke 2 and a magnet 3 is placed. In this state, when the carriage 6' moves to a prescribed position and the tracking operation is executed, it is executed by torsional deformation of the elastic body 20. Also, the tracking reference position is set by utilizing a habit of an automatic reset of the time when no external force is applied. Therefore, a vibrating phenomenon which is apt to occur in a conventional ball bearing is not generated, and the tracking accuracy can be improved.
