Summary:PURPOSE:To suppress dimensional change of a metallic sintered body owing to expansion and to improve dimensional accuracy by forming a refractory shell layer having fine open cells on the surface of a molding consisting of a plastic material. CONSTITUTION:A plastic material prepd. by kneading sinterable metallic powder and synthetic resin binder is molded to a prescribed shape under pressure to form a molding F1. The molding is immersed in a material for forming the shell layer to form the film sticking thereto and is naturally dried then the molding is dried by heating for about 1hr at 100 deg.C to form the refractory shell layer S1 having the fine open cells. The molding F1 is put into a container 1 and is enveloped by a powdery backup material 21. Such container is installed in a vacuum sintering furnace 3. The sintering furnace 3 is heated up to decompose thermally the synthetic resin binder in the molding F1 and to sinter the metallic powder, by which the metallic sintered body is obtd.
