Summary:PURPOSE:To recondition recovered sand in short time to molding sand by determining the insufficient rate of water spray from the correlative relation between the set moldability index and parameter value of molding sand and the actually measured moldability index of the recovered sand after the 1st water spray. CONSTITUTION:The relation between the correlative relation between the set moldability index when the moldability index is made constant by thorough mixing of the molding sand and the parameter value and the relation between the parameter value and the optimum secondary water spray rate are perliminarily determined with a batch type sand mill. The moldability index after mixing of the sand under the primary water spray with the recovered sand obtd. by knocking out actually the molding sand is actually measured and the insufficient water spray rate for the target moldability index is determined from the actually measured moldability index and the various above-mentioned relations. The recovered sand is subjected to the secondary water spray at said water spray rate, by which the recovered sand is treated to the condition reusable as molding sand for forming a casting mold.
