Elemental analysis; C 46.42-43.69%, H 5.94-4.85%, N 11.42-9.50%; molecular weight, 500-25,000 (by gel-filtration); decomposition temperature, turns brown at 160 deg.C and turns black and decomposes at 200 deg.C; specific rotation, [alpha]D =+45.0 deg.C (C=1.00); solubility, soluble in water, partially soluble in methanol etc., hardly soluble or insoluble in n-butanol, etc.; pH of 1.0% aqueous solution, 6.5; appearance, pale yellow powder; color reactions, positive to ninhydrin reaction, etc., negative to Molish reaction, etc.: stabilized by the addition of L- cysteine, dithiothreitol, etc. USE:An antitumor agent PREPARATION:A bacterial strain belonging to Streptococcus genus and capable of producing the antitumor composition SPF-100 is cultured anaerobically at 5- 8pH and 30-40 deg.C without agitation, while adding penicillin or its relating substance to the calture medium at an arbitrary stage of cultivation. The bacterial cells are removed from the cultured product by filtration, and the filtrate is purified to obtain the objective SPF-100.
