Summary:PURPOSE:To form a ferrite film adequate as a magnetic recording medium by forming preliminarily a lower oxide of Cu on a substrate surface in the stage of adsorbing FeOH<+> on the substrate surface and oxidizing the same to Fe<2+> then bringing the same into reaction with FeOH<+> to form the ferrite film. CONSTITUTION:A substrate is immersed into an aq. soln. which contains ferrous ions and is maintained at 20-90 deg.C and 6-12pH to adsorb FeOH<+> on the surface of said substrate. The adsorbed FeOH<+> is oxidized to FeOH<2+> by H2O2, HNO3, etc. to induce a ferrite crystal reaction with FeOH<+> thereby forming a ferrite film to about 10-500nm thickness. The oxide film of Cu having the low degree of oxidation to the extent at which the peak of Cu2O is not observed in X-ray diffraction is preliminarily formed on the surface of a metal such as Al, Cu, Fe or the like, plastics or ceramics such as glass or the like as he substrate, by which the ferrite film having the excellent characteristics as a magnetic recording medium is formed.
