Summary:PURPOSE:To improve the toughness by rolling and cooling a rough pipe of a steel contg. prescribed percentages of C, Si, Mn, Al and Nb under prescribed conditions. CONSTITUTION:A steel contg. <=0.3% C, 0.1-1% Si, 1-3% Mn, 0.005-0.1% Al and 0.01-0.15% Nb is refined. A rough pipe of the steel is heated to the Ac3 transformation point +50-1,150 deg.C and rolled at >=20% draft with a stretch reducer mill having a rolling rate at which the interval between passes is <=0.5sec. The resulting pipe is air-cooled or water-cooled to 500 deg.C/sec cooling rate. Thus, the toughness is improved.
