Summary:PURPOSE:A novel polysaccharide derivative, containing two specific repeating units and having powerful antitumor activity but very low toxicity and beta-1,3- glucan as a backbone. CONSTITUTION:A novel polysaccharide derivative, containing repeating units of formula I (D-Glu is D-glucosopyranose residue; figures 1 and 3 are the bonding positions) and formula II {the same part as formula I is a backbone part; n is an integer 0-2; X is a group of formula III (A is OH, etc.) or D-glucopyranosyl group; Y is a group of formula IV [X is linked to C marked with (P), and to the glucopyranose residue through O marked with (Q)], etc.}, and obtained by reacting an aldehyde type beta-1,3-glucan with histamine or a salt thereof to form a Schiff base, and reducing the resultant Schiff base.
