Summary:PURPOSE:To decrease edge thickness during rolling without decreasing rolling speed and without increasing middle thickness by controlling the flow rate distribution of cooling sprays in such a way that the thermal crown curve attains the target curve similar to a deflection curve. CONSTITUTION:A thermal crown calculator 22 in a means 20 for controlling distribution of cooling sprays predicts, calculates and outputs the vector quantity of the m-dimensional thermal crown matched with the changing control unit of a thermal crown curve B from the measuring data such as the temp. and size of a material, rolling speed, rolling reduction, distribution rate of cooling sprays, etc. A function generator 24 determines the target curve D approximately proportional to a deflection curve A, i.e., CREF(m) with the value CTHO at the roll center of the thermal crown as a reference. A subtractor 26 compares the thermal crown curve CTH and CRFE and determines a deviation CERR. An arithmetic controller 28 for control makes control and arithmetic operation by using the deviation and outputs the flow rate distribution SPY(m) of the cooling sprays. The high edge phenomenon of the rolled material is thus prevented.
