Summary:PURPOSE:To detect a linear position with high accuracy by detecting a position based on a linear relative displacement position of a rod constituted of a magnetic material part and a good conductive material part, and a detecting coil, through an eddy current generated in the detecting coil. CONSTITUTION:An A phase primary coil and a secondary coil 1A, 2A, and a C phase primary coil and a secondary coil 1C, 2C are contained in a cylindrical magnetic case 4, and in a similar magnetic case 5 separated by a prescribed distance, similar coils 1B and 2B, and 1D and 2D of a B phase and a D phase are contained. In this state, an eddy current corresponding to a linear relative displacement position to a round bar-shaped rod 6 is detected through the coils 2A-2D. This rod 6 is formed by a magnetic material part 6a and an electric conductor part 6b having good conductivity, and by a geometric eddy current by both the parts 6a, 6b, the eddy current detected by the coils 2A-2D becomes large, and the linear relative displacement is detected with high accuracy.
