PURPOSE:To sterilize effectively an apparatus for producing a silver halide photosensitive material having the surface which is in contact with a coating compsn. for a photograph constituting layer of said material without influencing adversely the photosensitive material by using an aq. soln. contg. specific 3- isothiazolone. CONSTITUTION:The compd. expressed by the formula (R1 is H, alkyl of a straight chain or branched chain, cyclic alkyl, alkenyl, aralkyl, aryl, heterocyclic ring, alkylamide, arylamide, alkylthioamide, arylthioamide or arylsulfoneamide, R2 and R3 are H, halogen alkyl cyclic alkyl, aryl, CN, alkylthio, arylthio, alkylsulfoxy, alkylsulfonyl or heterocycle, and the above-mentioned alkyl, cyclic alkyl, alkenyl, aralkyl, aryl and heterocyclic ring may have a substitutent) is used in the form of an aq. soln. of water or water alcohol, etc. for sterilizing a vessel, piping, washing water tank, etc. for producing an emulsion for producing a silver halide photosensitive material and for various kinds of coating, etc. The sterilization of microorganisms is thus thoroughly accomplished.
