Summary:PURPOSE:To obtain a separator having large porosity, high mechanical strength, and good absorbency and holding ability of electrolyte by making the separator with glass fibers having large average length without binder by using a paper machine. CONSTITUTION:Silicate glass fibers containing alkali having a mean diameter of 0.5-1.0mu and a mean length of 7-50mm. are interwined by a paper machine in a wet process and bonded each other without a special binder to form a separator having a density of 0.10-0.13g/cm . Strength of a separator is increased by increasing length of fiber and its porocity ratio is improved by decreasing diameter of the fiber.
