PURPOSE:To make it possible to shorten the inspection time of a magnetic recording medium, by simultaneously recording the magnetic recording medium to be inspected to a plurality of tracks while simultaneously regenerating a plurality of said tracks. CONSTITUTION:The gap of a recording head 3 has a gap width capable of simultaneously recording a magnetic recording medium 1 from the outermost peripheral track 2-1 thereof to the innermost peripheral track 2-N and the regeneration gap 6-1 of a regeneration head 5 is positioned so as to correspond to the outermost peripheral track 2-1 of the recording medium 1 while the regeneration gap 6-N thereof positioned so as to correspond to the innermost peripheral track 2-N thereof. Thererfore, a recording medium 1 can be simultaneously recorded from the outermost peripheral track 2-1 to the innermost peripheral track 2-N by the recording head 4 and tracks ranging from the outermost peripheral track 2-1 to the innermost peripheral track 2-N can be simultaneously regenerated by the regeneration gaps 6-1-6-N of the regeneration head 5. Therefore, by simultaneously performing recording and regeneration, inspection is finished by one rotation of the recording medium and an inspection time can be shortend.
