EXAMPLE:7-(4''-Hydroxy-3''-methoxyphenyl)-1-phenyl-3,5-heptadione. USE:An inhibitor for biosynthesis of prostaglandin useful as a drug having antiphlogistic action, antipyretic action, analgesic action, antiallergic action, counteracting action on formaton of thrombus, inhibitory action on aging of blood vessel (prevention of arteriosclerosis), remedying menoxenia, for antihydrophilic diarrhea, etc. as a substance for controlling arachidonic acid cascade. PROCESS:Rhizome of Alpinia officinarum Hance is extracted with methanol, and the extracted solution is fractionated into an n-hexane soluble fraction and a chloroform soluble fraction by a conventional procedure. The chloroform soluble fraction is purified by chromatography using an inhibitory action on prostaglandin synthetase as an index, and it is fractionated to give a compound shown by the formula.
