Summary:PURPOSE:To prevent the development of cracks and to achieve the enhancement of roll life, by interposing an under build-up layer of an alloy comprising Si, C, Mn, Ni, Cr Mo, and Fe between the surface of a roll main body comprising specific steel and an upper build-up layer. CONSTITUTION:On the surface of a roll main body, an alloy comprising, on the wt., basis 0.05-0.15% C, 0.6wt% or less Si, 1-2% Mn, 1-2% Si+Mn, 0.2- 1.5wt% Ni, 0.2-1% Mo and the remainder Fe is mounted as an under build- up layer and heat resistance layer is mounted thereon to form a hot roll. The aforementioned roll main body comprises carbon steel, low alloy steel or 13 chromium stainless steel. Because the alloy excellent in strength and toughness is mounted to the under build-up layer part in this hot roll, crack development is prevented and, therefore, roll life is enhanced.
