PURPOSE:To prevent unsatisfactory contact and improve reliability by providing a lug on the peripheral section of a metallic presser plate arranged above the laminated electrode group contained in a cell case and burying it in the electrode to be in contact with a metallic core material. CONSTITUTION:A positive electrode 3 made of a core material 3a impregnated with nickel hydroxide in the nickel-sintered substrate on both faces is laminated on a negative electrode 1 made of a core material 1a provided with an active material layer mainly composed of cadmium via a separator 2, a presser plate 4 formed with a ring-like lug 4c on the peripheral section is arranged above it, then they are sealed in a cell case 8 together with a spring 5, a seal plate 6 with a rubber safety valve 7, etc. to form a closed-type alkaline cell. Accordingly, the lug 4c of the presser plate 4 is buried into the positive electrode 3 to be in contact with the core material 3a, thereby the contact between the positive electrode 3 and the presser plate 4 concurrently serving as a current collector is made very reliable, thus the cell performance can be improved.
