Summary:PURPOSE:To increase remarkably the rate of energy recovered by an exhaust gas turbine by throttling an exhaust gas turbine nozzle of a supercharger so that pressure in an exhaust pipe approximately equals pressure in a combustion chamber of an engine body right before an exhaust valve is opened. CONSTITUTION:A supercharger 30 drives an exhaust gas turbine 32 by exhaust gas ejected from a combustion chamber 28 to an exhaust pipe 38 in the operation of an engine body 10 and pressurizes supplied air by a blower 34 provided coaxially with this turbine 32 to supercharge said air from an air feed pipe 36 to the combustion chamber 28. In this case, by throttling a nozzle 40 of the exhaust gas turbine 32, pressure in the exhaust pipe 38 is approximately equalized to pressure in the combustion chamber 28 right before an exhaust valve 22 is opened. Thus, exhaust gas pressure introduced into the turbine 32 is raised so that rate of exhaust gas energy recovered by the turbine 32 is increased.
